Inducted into the Weightlifting Hall of Fame: January 25, 2023
George Weatherford is an insurance executive and former president of the UL Athletics Hall of Fame Club.
George was from New Roads, Louisiana and attended USL and graduated with a BA degree in 1969 and a master’s degree in 1973. He received a Charted Life Underwriter degree from the American College in 1976. He received an honorable discharged for the U. S. Marine Corps. He was a four-year letterman at USL in weightlifting and served as captain and co-captain of the USL weightlifting team. He was a member of the Varsity S Club, president of the S Club for two years and served on the Board of Directors for six years. He was a former distributive education coordinator for the Lafayette Parish School System from 1971-1973. He is the owner of George Weatherford, CLU Ltd. Agency established in 1973. His charitable organizations include working in Kairos Ministry at Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola and working at the United Christian Outreach. Patricia and George married in 1968 and have three children and five grandchildren.
George was one of two UL lifters who was on the team winning four consecutive national collegiate weightlifting championships from 1965 through 1968. He served as captain of the team and won many championships throughout the South.
George lives in Lafayette with his wife Pat.
George was inducted into the UL Athletics Hall of Fame.
